The cool thing about being a natural light photographer (well, one of the cool things, because there are so many!) is getting to see your favorite spots at all different seasons. They look different for every session and every year you schedule there. This was the case with these spring family photos at Potomac Overlook Regional Park from last month!
I’ve done more than a dozen sessions at this park, sometimes in the early fall, a few late in the fall, and at least one in the spring, but last month, the park looked completely different from any of those other times! It stayed cold this year until about half way through spring, so for our late April spring family photos, the trees were just starting to bloom. There were those light green leaves barely filling in, creating enough shade for our late afternoon session. And lucky us! We found a couple of trees with gentle white blossoms, creating a canopy and a perfect frame for some family portraits.
OK, enough about my obsession with this beautiful park. Let’s talk about the sweet family in these spring family photos! I had the honor of taking photos for this family back in the fall at another local park, and I was excited when they contacted me again for spring family photos! Katy noted that her boys are growing so fast (that’s the thing with kids, I hear) and she wanted to capture memories of them at this stage where they love having fun together.
This park was great for spring family photos with these two boys because they love to run around and have an adventurous streak – they were totally game to climb a couple trees during our session! I love capturing candid photos of the kids where their personalities just shine, and I was especially excited to capture the ever so elusive brotherly kiss on the cheek! Minimal bribing was involved too! haha
