I am *so* excited to share Colleen’s Washington, D.C. senior portraits with you today! I’m excited because 1. Colleen is just beautiful and was so fun to photograph, 2. we had every kind of weather during this session, so we got quite the variety of images, and 3. I’ve been wanting to photograph seniors for a while now (keep reading to find out why) and this was the first chance I got to do so!
I remember my high school senior portraits. I rushed around that morning gathering different outfits and accessories (I was big on accessories, y’all). I had no idea what to do with my makeup or hair. I felt super awkward on the stage of the auditorium where the portrait setup was, running through poses directed by the photographer while other students who were waiting for their turn watched. My photos turned out OK, but I definitely looked uncomfortable in them and didn’t feel they at all represented who I was at that time in my life, other than the fact that I was big on accessories!
I’ve been wanting to give high school seniors in our area another option besides one like that awkward experience I had. Being a senior in high school is such an incredibly special, exciting, overwhelming time in life. We have all been there! With the senior sessions I’ve put together, my goal is to understand what makes each senior the unique individual they are, help them prepare for their session in every way, and then show off their personality during the session! And give them a fun, relaxed, not awkward experience along the way.
I hope that’s what we accomplished with Colleen’s Washington, D.C. senior portraits! Colleen wanted to highlight the city in her portraits since she’s grown up in the area and will be going kinda far away to college in the fall. This future Bulldog loves to hang out with her friends, go shopping, go on walks and hikes with her friends, and has a really great sense of humor, as demonstrated in some of the adorable outtakes we had from our session – not shared here! haha Colleen and I are kindred spirits because whenever I told her I was doing a test shot to make sure my settings were good, she made a silly face! Which certain photographers I shoot with can attest – I do the same thing! 😛
Colleen – thank you for spending one humid, sometimes-rainy, rainbow-y evening with me for your Washington, D.C. senior portraits session. We dodged bums at Union Station, embraced the rain, and in the end, got some really beautiful portraits to commemorate this special time in your life. I hope you’re enjoying them <3
