Last week I had the honor of photographing the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce’s Rayburn Building reception they dubbed ‘Madison Meets D.C.’. Wisconsinites from around the D.C. metro area joined the G.M.C.o.C.’s Board of Directors in welcoming Wisconsin members of Congress for mixing, mingling, and sipping good ol’ Wisconsin beers!
The Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce wants to make the Madison-area a global hub for innovation (as noted on their website), so they made sure to recruit a number of businesses from around the region to sponsor this Rayburn Building reception. The sponsors and vendors set up their booths around the courtyard with fun props and demonstrations. There was a virtual reality station where people could test out the goggles and see things as if they were in downtown Madison. There was a pretty high tech photo booth where folks could have a picture taken and have it look like they were actually in the City of Four Lakes. Between that & the Leinenkugel, there was plenty to keep people entertained!
I was a Political Science major in college, so seeing members of Congress up close and personal counts as a celebrity sighting for me! I lucked out at this event because the G.M.C.o.C. managed to draw out five or so Congresspeople and Senators to attend this Rayburn Building reception. The members of Congress finished their voting for the day, then joined the mix, talking with their constituents and chatting up the Chamber’s President, Zach Brandon. I managed to keep my cool though; no autograph requests or geeking out too much!
Thanks to the Chamber for honoring me with the opportunity to photograph this special evening, and an extra shout out to Wendy Riemann of 1492 Communications who coordinated the entire event. She was getting compliments all night for the large turnout & success of the evening, so, well done Wendy!
