HI, I'M RACHEL!

The beauty of being a season behind on blogging is that I get to relive such a beautiful season and all the fun I had with my clients! I get to do just that today with Darcy and Connor’s autumn magic hour engagement session in Washington, D.C.!
Darcy and Connor live in North Carolina and are going to be moving to D.C. this year. When they met, she was living out of state and he was living near D.C. in Virginia. Darcy would often come to town to see Connor while they were dating, and they developed an affinity for the city. In fact, Connor popped the question on the National Mall with the monuments as his backdrop! Being that they have such a strong connection to D.C., they decided to have their autumn magic hour engagement session here.
I always like to share some of the logistical things that go in to choosing photo session locations, so you can get a feel for some of the behind the scenes magic. Darcy and Connor really love Old Town Alexandria. They also wanted to include a quintessential D.C. landmark in their autumn magic hour engagement session. Since they wanted two distinct locations, that meant we would do the two hour package. They landed on SCOTUS as their second location, and since their session was on a Friday evening, I suggested Georgetown instead of Old Town. Georgetown has historic charm like Old Town, and it’s on the same side of the river as SCOTUS.
If you know anything about D.C., you know rush hour traffic is nothing to mess with! haha Sitting in Friday evening traffic to cross the bridge from Alexandria to D.C. would’ve taken up so much time. It would’ve taken away time they would get in front of the camera. Since I’m always working with sunlight, we have just a two hour timespan before sunset to get the best images. Therefore, I try to limit travel time as much as possible. I find my clients appreciate that type of insight. That was true in this case, and Darcy and Connor were happy to include Georgetown instead of Alexandria! The payoff of more time in front of the camera was worth the cost of skipping their first choice location.
To kind of make up for not getting to go to Alexandria, I wanted to make sure I included some unique, beautiful spots for D&C’s autumn magic hour engagement session. I took them to a sort of new-to-me spot in Georgetown, and although I’ve shot there at least once before, I made sure to scout out a few new spots for them. The magic hour light was absolutely beautiful that day and I’m so excited about their photos!
In addition to the gorgeous light, these two were pure gems in front of the camera! They clearly have such a good time together, and just flat out enjoy each other’s company. They spent lots of time at our session laughing and joking – you’ll see Darcy’s smile is just priceless!
