HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
I know, I know… it’s well past cherry blossoms season. But y’all… once you see these DC cherry blossoms wedding portraits, you will totally understand why I couldn’t wait until next season to share them!
I absolutely love Sarah and Ian’s DC cherry blossoms wedding portraits, and am excited to share them with you today! Sarah and Ian were referred to me by another talented photographer, Charisma O’Keefe. We follow each other on Instagram and when she found out her brother-in-law and new sister-in-law were planning to have wedding portraits taken after their recent elopement, she referred them to me! Charisma lives in Florida and couldn’t make it to D.C. to take the photos herself, so I feel honored she trusted me to take care of her family.
Sarah and Ian got married in the D.C. area before a big move overseas. To commemorate their time in the city, they wanted to include some special places in their wedding photos. And of course they wanted to include their adorable fur baby, Raleigh. The cherry blossoms peaked early this year, so I was nervous that they would all be gone by April 1st, when their session was scheduled. I did some recon the day before to find that there was an area on the tidal basin that still had some blossoms on the trees, so that’s where we started. The trees you seen in these photos weren’t at ‘peak bloom’, but wow – they still looked fantastic!
I love these photos so much because in addition to the good light and beautiful scenery, Sarah and Ian really went all out with their wedding looks. And the super helpful part was that they brought two friends with them to help carry stuff and sit with Raleigh when she wasn’t in the photos. It’s beyond helpful to have extra hands during wedding portraits because there are so many moving parts. Between taking care of the dress, carrying the bouquet, holding jackets if it’s cold (towels and water if it’s hot), as well as a change of shoes for all the walking – it’s a lot! I definitely appreciated having the extra assistance for Sarah and Ian.
Ian had been out of state for about a month before their DC cherry blossoms wedding portraits, so this session was like a reunion for him and Sarah! And what better activity to do upon your reunion than get dressed up in wedding attire, celebrate your marriage, and be romantic in front of the camera?!
Ian and Sarah had gotten married at the National Portrait Gallery, so they wanted to include that as a location for their DC cherry blossoms wedding portraits. That was our last stop after the tidal basin and Lincoln Memorial. I love how we were able to work in so many D.C. landmarks and locations that were special to them.
Congratulations and best wishes again to Sarah and Ian! I hope these photos bring you many happy memories of your time in Washington, D.C.
Just look at this sweet little furbaby in her flower collar!
