HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
This is a post full of firsts! The first blog post of the new year (2021); the first blog post in a LONG time (since October!); the first post on my brand spankin’ new website that I launched in December; my first ever Athenaeum Alexandria wedding; and the first time getting to work with Shea and Andrew! Whew!
I’ve been living in Virginia Beach since late August and traveling to Northern Virginia/Washington, D.C., nearly every weekend for photo sessions and weddings, like this Athenaeum Alexandria wedding. That didn’t leave much time for blogging, unfortunately. But I’m glad to be back at it now! I had the honor of photographing so many beautiful sessions, elopements, and micro-weddings for lots of wonderful people throughout the fall and into January, and I’m excited to share them with you!
Let’s kick off my foray back into blogging with Shea and Andrew’s late fall Athenaeum Alexandria wedding! Shea and Andrew were excited to get married in Old Town Alexandria where they went on their first date six years ago. Of course, Old Town is a fantastic place to get married, and I’m so glad they introduced me to the Athenaeum. I had never photographed an event there before, and it was the perfect backdrop to their intimate micro-wedding.
I started the day at Shea’s sister’s house and y’all, these ladies were so on top of it! They cleared out the space in the living room so we would have plenty of room for natural light details photos and bridal portraits. I’m going to tell you right now that you’re going to see A LOT of bridal portraits in this post! Shea made a stunning bride, her dress fit like a glove, all of her details were picture perfect, and the natural light streaming in through the huge windows was amazing. All the makings of some of my all time favorite bridal images!
I think my favorite moments from the day, though, were when Shea and Andrew’s daughter helped Shea put on her gift from Andrew – a new Tiffany necklace. So precious! And let’s not forget about how adorable and stylish she looked in her emerald green and white flower girl outfit! (Where can I get that in my size?!)
From there, we cruised over to Old Town to meet up with Andrew so he and Shea could share their first look. It was freezing cold, but Shea was such a trooper rockin’ her sleeveless wedding dress so she could show it off to Andrew in all its stunning glory! He was so taken with her and it was such a treat to witness and photograph.
I’ll let the images do the talking for the rest of their day, and leave you with this: Shea and Andrew, I’m wishing you a lifetime of precious moments just like the ones you experienced on your wedding day! Congratulations and best wishes!
Shea’s giving me all the Daphne Bridgerton vibes here!
Lady, you are stunning!
The sweetest first look reaction <3
When the wind helps you with romantic veil shots…
Special shout out to my second photographer, Leah Eversley, for capturing Andrew’s portraits!
