Wow, what a heavy couple weeks it’s been. In the midst of all of it, I keep experiencing an overwhelming sense of appreciation that I get to capture love for my job. Alycia and Scott’s Old Town Alexandria wedding portraits have definitely kept me smiling this week.
Alycia contacted me a couple months ago when it was becoming apparent she and Scott were going to have to postpone their wedding at The Alexandrian in Old Town. They were set to get married on 4.4.20 (love that date!), and I could hear in her voice that she was struggling with the prospect of rescheduling. I can only imagine how stressful it must’ve been this spring for couples who were set to get married in March and April, facing the decision to cancel or postpone on such short notice – completely out of the blue.
Alycia and Scott impressed me though, with their ability to see some silver linings, including the opportunity to still do their Old Town Alexandria wedding portraits. I wasn’t their original photographer, but I’m glad they found me for these portraits! These two love birds went ahead and got married in a super small ceremony on their original wedding date. They waited a couple months for things to start reopening to do their photos, and then I got to give them a fun morning (at sunrise, eep!) to spend together in celebration of their marriage. That feels like a huge honor.
These two considerate, self described ‘quirky’ love birds were a joy to be around. They live and work near Old Town, and booked all Alexandria based businesses for their their original wedding, so obviously Old Town Alexandria wedding portraits was a natural fit. We started the morning on the waterfront and wound our way through Old Town looking for good light and hitting some of the classic stops.
Oh! I have to tell you about Alycia and Scott’s wedding rings! Both Scott’s wedding band and Alycia’s engagement ring belonged to Scott’s mother. His band in particular was a family heirloom. I just love when wedding rings have history like that! If you look super closely at his band, you’ll see a tiny ruby as the eye of the lion. So cool!
Congratulations and best wishes to Alycia and Scott on your two month wedding anniversary!
Alycia, your smile is the *best*!
