Whew! It’s been quite a busy season this fall – which is awesome because I love getting to meet new people and doubly love capturing their happy memories for them. The drawback is less time for blogging and I get delayed in sharing their beautiful stories and photos! I’ve been waiting to share Jen and Merit’s Lincoln Memorial engagement photos for a while now and am excited the wait is over!
I’ll admit, the girly girl in me gets excited when I see a client show up in a tulle skirt! A tulle skirt just adds an extra bit of elegance and whimsy to photos. Needless to say, I was excited when Jen showed up wearing one for her Lincoln Memorial engagement photos!
Jen and Merit moved to D.C. a few years ago and loved touring the monuments when they first moved to the city, plus they’re self-described history buffs, so naturally they were excited to have Lincoln Memorial engagement photos taken!
If you’re not a photographer, you probably see clouds on the day of your photo shoot and get a little disappointed. I’m here to tell you, you don’t need to be! I was actually excited to see some cloud cover the day of Jen and Merit’s Lincoln Memorial engagement photos because it meant we had more free rein to use the monument exactly how I wanted!
With the Lincoln Memorial, specifically, it’s oriented in such a way that when the sun rises, it casts a yellow glow on the white marble and the entire thing is glowing yellow. It’s like doing a photo shoot on the surface of the sun! Not exactly the look I’m going for! When it’s cloudy, the marble maintains its natural hue and we’re able to use a lot more of the space. All that is to say, the clouds really helped Jen and Merit get beautiful, consistent photos and I think the cloudy tones even looked fantastic with their outfit choices!
Congratulations and best wishes to Jen and Merit on your engagement!
