HI, I'M RACHEL!

One of the beautiful things about living and working around Washington, D.C. is having the opportunity to meet people from all around the world! My life and my business have truly been enriched by getting to interact with people from cultures different than my own. I mention this because for this Capitol Hill family photos session featured today, I had the opportunity to meet a family from Australia!
Funnily enough, as I was writing this post, it dawned on me that Ruth, her hubby, David, and their daughter, Ava, were wearing red, white, and blue – the colors of both the American AND Australian flags – for their Capitol Hill family photos! Now that is taking my photo shoot style guide to another level! haha
The day of our shoot was Ruth’s 30th birthday and she wanted to take some time that day to commemorate the occasion with professional photos of her family. How sweet! And what a great way to spend your birthday: with your family, outdoors, getting dolled up, and having photos to remember the day for years into the future!
Since Ruth and her family aren’t from the area – Australia is quite far away from this area! – she wanted to include some iconic D.C. architecture in their images. She suggested a park by the Capitol, so I had some fun location scouting prior to our session and found Lower Senate Park to be the perfect spot to capture all she was looking for! As you’ll see, there are views of the Capitol dome, beautiful fountains, and at that time of year, lots and lots of blooms and greenery.
Ruth was excited for me to capture photos of her and her hubby interacting with their baby, Ava, who was six months old at the time. She loves Ava’s magical laugh and I’m excited we got a lot of photos of her laughter during the shoot! She was such a happy baby and incredibly easy to photograph. Definitely a treat!
I got to wish Ruth a happy birthday the day of her shoot, but am happy to say so again: happy belated birthday, Ruth! I hope you and your family enjoy these precious mementos for years to come!
