HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!

Happy Monday, friends! Another summer weekend has come to pass and whew, was it a hot one! I got to enjoy the heat all weekend because this weekend was all about the outdoor photo sessions! I got to be a D.C. maternity photographer with two maternity sessions, plus a grad sesh and headshots micro session.
I’ll back up a little to Friday. Friday was the day I’ve been dreading for about six months: tax day. (So dramatic!) Last year I got my taxes done by an accountant and it was the best $300 I could’ve spent! I planned to do that again this year, but once quarantine kicked in I decided to forego that to save some dinero. And then I procrastinated… and procrastinated some more. They pushed back the deadline, so procrastinating became super easy! haha Fast forward to Friday and it was just five days before the deadline. I’m honestly surprised with myself that I did it that early! Thank goodness for TurboTax, because I made it through in about four hours. Phew!
Side note, ya know what’s super helpful in getting yourself to do something you’re dreading? Giving yourself a reward! That’s just what I did with my taxes. My reward for finishing my taxes was combined with a reward for upholding boundaries (also a challenging thing I’m working on; if I uphold three of my personal boundaries in a row, I get a prize!). I bought myself an Amazon Echo Auto! That’s right folx – Alexa for my car!
OK, back to how I’m a fantastic D.C. maternity photographer! haha
Saturday morning I got up bright and early (that 5:15AM alarm is always a shock… every darn time) to meet April and Erik in Old Town Alexandria to be their D.C. maternity photographer. I would say it was totally worth getting up that early though, because it was *so* much cooler at that hour.
Saturday night I met up with Larissa and Drew for their maternity session at Daingerfield Island. Twas quite a bit warmer at sunset, but they did such a great job keeping their cool!
(Also, please notice how Larissa and April we wearing the same dress in different colors! What are the odds of that – on the same day?!)
Now let’s talk about a mistake I made… giving a client who lives about an hour away the option to do a sunrise session where they live. Um… that meant I was going to have to wake up at 4:30AM and y’all that was not going to happen. 5:15 is one thing… 4:30AM is literally dangerous. So, I ended up getting a hotel room to stay at the night before so I could sleep in a little more and not be a hazard driving on the road. It was worth it because meeting Juanita and taking her graduation photos was so fun!
After Juanita’s grad sesh, I went back to the hotel for a nap, then made a pit stop at Algonkian Regional Park for a walk before heading back to Arlington to get ready for a headshots micro session that evening.
That’s it for my weekend! I’m taking a break from blogging this week to focus on some other work I need to get done, but I’ll be back next week with my regular blog schedule and photos featuring my beautiful clients! I hope you have a fantastic week ahead! <3
