Wow! I don’t even know where to start with sharing about Naina and Josh’s colorful Tranquility Farm Hindu wedding! There was so much tradition, so many memorable moments, and so much color. So much to share!
You may remember Naina and Josh from their April 2018 proposal at the Inn at Perry Cabin, as well as their Congressional Club joint engagement party with Naina’s sister, Tripti, and her fiancĂ©. I’ve had the honor of photographing four events for these two love birds now (including their pre-wedding Mehndi party the night before their colorful Tranquility Farm Hindu wedding). And folks, as a photographer, it doesn’t get much sweeter than that.
Naina and Josh’s colorful Tranquility Farm Hindu wedding started at the manor house where Naina, her nine bridesmaids, cousins, aunts, and mom were getting ready for the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony. Naina wore the same sari her mother wore the day of her wedding, and Naina’s sister, Neha, was wearing the sari their aunt wore on the day of their mom’s wedding. Love! There were many more sentimental touches throughout the day, but I think that was my favorite.
Naina’s sisters helped her get dressed and put on all of the traditional bridal jewelry, including the Nath, or nose ring, which was serious business! haha Naina looked absolutely stunning by the time she was put together, just in time to hear the ceremonial dohl (drums) to begin the baraat, or the groom’s procession. You guys – I could not stop crying once I saw Josh on the horse! The baraat is such an intensely emotional and joyful tradition to witness, and I just loved the idea of so much pomp and circumstance to prepare the groom for meeting his bride.
There was so much ritual included in the Hindu ceremony, I couldn’t possibly share photos of each and every piece in one blog post, but one theme I loved was the involvement of family. Family is clearly so important in Indian culture and it was beautiful to capture those special moments of the bride and groom with their loved ones.
We ended Naina and Josh’s colorful Tranquility Farm Hindu wedding with family and wedding party portraits (where I fell on my butt in front of everyone! haha!), and finally love bird portraits with the newlyweds. The happy couple got to enjoy time with their guests over traditional Indian cuisine before they took a break to rest up for their next ceremony…
Check back tomorrow to see Naina and Josh’s second ceremony of the day, but for now, enjoy these vibrant photos!
