HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!

We’re carrying on this week with Carissa’s D.C. cherry blossoms senior portraits!
Carissa was referred to me via her mom, who’s sister in law I had taken photos for before (and even did a cherry blossoms session with last year!). I am so appreciative of the referral because Carissa was so fun and easy to work with – and I’m obsessed with her D.C. cherry blossoms senior portraits!
Carissa was a high school senior last spring, graduating with the class of 2022. She was excited to have her photos taken with the cherry blossoms! And it was her first time seeing them since she was a little kid. We did an evening session, which meant we would not be along the tidal basin (I only shoot there in the morning). So I found another spot that also gave us some variety so we weren’t just focused on the blossoms. As much as I love the blossoms, for senior portraits, I like the idea that the person is the main focus, not necessarily the blossoms. So it was good to switch up our locations.
Like most teenagers, Carissa has a few hobbies she likes to practice – baking, shopping, spending time with friends. But her main passion is dance! Carissa is a beautiful dancer and spent a lot of time at the studio with her friends dancing. A girl after my own heart! I loved to dance as a teenager (and was on my high school pom squad!), so it was fun to take photos of a fellow dance fan. We even chose an elegant move for her to do as a pose in one of her photos!
My favorite thing about taking high school senior portraits is that the graduates always show up looking exactly like themselves! They wear clothes and jewelry they love that really represent them at this stage in their life. And I imagine their parents love these photos! They get to look back and reminisce on who their kids were at 17-18 years old, just before they embarked on their own life.
Carissa is now a freshman at a Floridian college, studying dietetics (which I had to google!) – which sounds really cool. Carissa – I hope you’re having a fabulous time and learning a lot! And that you enjoying looking back on last year with your D.C. cherry blossoms senior portraits.
