Another week, another cherry blossoms session to share! Today it’s all about Jodi and her D.C. cherry blossoms headshots.
In all my years photographing cherry blossoms sessions, I don’t think I had ever taken headshots. Until Jodi! Jodi had been promoted to Commander (CDR) in the U.S. Navy, and would soon be moving overseas. She wanted photos with the cherry blossoms to commemorate her time in D.C. And I thought that was a great idea! I mean, if you want quintessential D.C. photos – cherry blossoms are the way to go!
I just loved that Jodi was making this time for herself to get all dolled up in a cute outfit, get up at sunrise, and have her D.C. cherry blossoms headshots taken. I feel like the pandemic has really driven home the fact that it’s important to document your life. Why not have photos taken just because you want them? And why not create an occasion to get dressed up? I’m probably biased (I’m definitely biased!), but I’m loving this trend!
It was fun getting to know Jodi as we walked around the tidal basin, looking for good light, full blossoms, and clear backgrounds. I’ll let you in on a little secret though: I really got to know Jodi on another day. She hired me again to take photos at her promotion ceremony in July! It was truly such an honor to get to take photos for that occasion. And the best part was hearing her story during her friend’s speech and her speech during the ceremony.
As a woman in the military, Jodi has overcome a lot to get to the position of CDR. It was so inspiring to hear stories of how she surpassed her male counterparts during training! And to know how she persevered through many challenges to make it to her promotion. She is a total bad ass and it was so cool to get to take photos for her twice!
Before we get to Jodi’s beautiful D.C. cherry blossoms headshots, I wanted to note a couple things: first, please note Jodi’s awesome choice of outfit colors! I absolutely love these photos and I think one of the many reasons is because she chose the perfect neutrals to complement the blossoms. Not that you have to wear pink with the blossoms, but I mean… come on! Second, Jodi booked the one hour session, which means one outfit. But look how she varied her look! She brought a coordinating jacket (which also kept her a little warmer), and two scarves. She’s one smart lady! Take notes, folks!
I mean, just look at how well she coordinates with Mother Nature!
Girl, you are gorgeous!
Did this post get you excited to book your own cherry blossoms, headshots, or branding session?! If yes, send me a note and we can chat about what you have in mind: contact me
