Today it’s all about Sarah and Matt and their autumn Capitol Hill engagement session!
So, here’s the thing. I have the honor of photographing a lot of people these days. That makes it challenging to share every single session here on the blog. When choosing which sessions to post here, I try to highlight new locations or special details. As well as to just showcase my latest work, since it’s ever evolving. I know I just posted a session from Capitol Hill a couple weeks ago. And here we are again with Sarah and Matt’s autumn Capitol Hill engagement session.
I’m highlighting this session because 1. Sarah and Matt are adorable and 2. we got to utilize a couple areas and angles that are new and I wanted to showcase those photos. Did you need that explanation? Probably not! haha But I do like to share some behind the scenes on my thought process from time to time.
Sarah and Matt met four years ago, and got engaged somewhat recently along the waterfront in D.C. They’ve lived on Capitol Hill for several years, Matt works on the Hill, and Sarah is a lawyer. So they figured an autumn Capitol Hill engagement session would be the perfect way to document and celebrate their engagement! I personally love when couples/clients have a strong connection to the location where we take their photos. It adds a deeper meaning to their photos and adds another memory to an already special place.
Since Matt and Sarah live on Capitol Hill, it made it super easy to incorporate their four year old foxhound, Ruthie, in their autumn Capitol Hill engagement session. Matt’s sister, Rebecca, was in town visiting, so she was able to bring over Ruthie about midway through their session. Ruthie was so excited to see Sarah and Matt! And she did such a great job in front of the camera. She was so sweet, friendly, and energetic. She knew just how to cooperate and look at the camera when needed.
What’s fun about taking photos at the same location in different seasons, is you always have different elements to work with. On this mid-autumn day, we actually got a little bit of warmer weather. And beautiful light! There were still some colorful leaves on the trees and ground, which added some fun fall color to the photos. The light and the colors inspired me to use the location in slightly different ways than I would other times of the year. I’m excited for you to see those photos!
Congratulations to Sarah and Matt on your engagement!
