Oh, I am so excited to share today’s Oatlands Leesburg engagement photos with you!
Every once in a while I get to do something outside of the box – or outside of the box for me. And that was the case with Marybeth and Jason’s Oatlands Leesburg engagement photos! Jason’s stepmom, Patti, was in my networking group (she works for the Arlington Rebuilding Together branch). After getting to know me and my photography, Patti decided to give Jason and Marybeth this session as a gift. So thoughtful!
I had the opportunity to chat with Marybeth and Jason before their Oatlands Leesburg engagement photos session. Jason was most excited to include his motorcycle in the photos. When he first mentioned that – my interests were piqued. I have never photographed anyone on a motorcycle before! I was excited to try something new plus I knew it would mean a lot to them to have these special photos.
Jason and Marybeth live a ways outside D.C., so they were interested in doing a more rural location for their engagement photos. They came up with the idea for Oatlands in Leesburg. It has plenty of open space, beautiful views, and the setting is stunning as well. I had been wanting to shoot there, too, so I was totally on board.
Jason and Marybeth are a great match! They’re both very even keeled, and they were both eager to talk about their dog, the motorcycle, and plans for their Costa Rican wedding this winter. My absolute favorite thing is when I put two people together in a pose and they get lost in their own little world. A pose is just a pose until the energy of two people brings it to life. And Jason and Marybeth definitely brought these poses to life!
We did a little posing practice before I felt we were ready to bring in the motorcycle. Jason drove it to this straightaway and parked it so we could utilize it for the photos. Y’all – I am obsessed with how these photos turned out! Marybeth and Jason were willing to play a little bit – from the sexy poses to wearing their sunglasses. Their enthusiasm and vulnerability really made these photos what they are.
We got a little carried away with the awesome prop of the motorcycle as well as the gorgeous scenery around the house. This location also has ornately designed, lush gardens (giving Bridgerton vibes). We barely got to use them and I still feel so bummed about that! By the time we finished with the other views and the motorcycle, the sun was setting and it was too dark to use much of the gardens. There was just too much for us to fit in to one 90 minute session! I could literally spend all day every day there and not get creatively drained.
I do very much love the photos we were able to capture for Marybeth and Jason’s Oatlands Leesburg engagement photos. And they both did a fantastic job in front of the camera!
