HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
I’m excited to share Angie and Tom’s pink sunrise Lincoln Memorial engagement photos with you for so many reasons! Let’s get right to it!
Reason Number 1
Reason number one why I’m excited to share these photos is because of how adorable Angie and Tom are together! They were so good in front of the camera! Angie says she’s the more serious of the two, and Tom has more of a sense of humor. Such a wonderful balance! And I think both of their personalities are on full display in their photos. Plus you can clearly see how Tom makes Angie laugh!
Angie and Tom met in Nashville, had their first date at a bookstore, and have been inseparable ever since. I love how Angie described their proposal at Great Falls – I’m going to directly quote her because it’s just too good! (She clearly has a sense of humor as well!) “Tom made me hike up a hill, fed me a knish, and then got down on one knee.” I mean – views, a snack, and a ring? What more could you want?!
Canon RF 28-70mm f2.0
Another reason I’m excited to share Angie and Tom’s pink sunrise Lincoln Memorial engagement photos is because it was the very first full photo session I did with my new Canon RF lens – the 28-70mm f2.0. Y’all – this lens is a big deal in the photography world. The 28-70 part means this is a zoom lens (as opposed to a fixed focal length or prime lens that does not zoom). Usually a zoom lens does not have an f stop as wide as 2.0. The widest they’ll go is f2.8. I don’t want to go down the full technical rabbit hole here, but it’s basically a technical marvel to have a zoom lens that goes to 2.0.
Up until I purchased this lens, 99% of the time I only used prime lenses. And that’s because to date, prime lenses are the only ones that give me the look I want. I love a creamy bokeh background with super sharp subjects. So for me to use a zoom lens is a big deal. But here we are. I am a convert because of this lens.
My New Go-To
This lens replaces two of my go-to prime lenses for portrait sessions – the 35mm and 50mm. And honestly, this session showed me I can use it in a lot of the same situations I would normally use my 85mm. For this session, I actually forgot my macro lens, the 100mm, for the ring shots – so I used this lens at 70mm and it turned out pretty darn well! This lens put in a lot of work at this session, replacing four of my usual lenses!
I know this is a lot of technical information, but the bottom line is this: the (extremely) high price tag is worth it for me. It is super convenient, creates images in line with my brand and style, and it creates purely stunning images – even better in some cases than my EF 85mm f1.4 on my R6 mirrorless camera body.
Angie and Tom were the perfect couple to christen my new lens! And so was that gorgeous pink sunrise!
Your smile is so vibrant, Angie!
This set of photos were the only ones from the whole sesh that I used my 85mm for!
