HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!

I get to share a new and unique type of photo session I don’t think I’ve ever shared on the blog before. I’m so excited to present you with Haley and Ben’s DC moving announcement portraits!
Moving On Up!
Haley and Ben were moving to the D.C. area and wanted to have DC moving announcement photos taken. What a smart idea! They were in town visiting before their big move, and while here they scheduled this photo session. They planned to use the photos for their moving announcement as well as their Christmas card. Two birds, one stone – many gorgeous photos!
Haley and Ben have been married for several years. Besides the two great reasons they already had to have these photos taken, they were also excited to have fresh photos in general. They hadn’t had professional photos taken since their engagement and wedding photos! I always love taking photos of married couples because they already know what they’re doing in front of the camera somewhat.
Quite the Back Story
The story of Haley and Ben’s DC moving announcement photos session is an interesting one! Because of a mistake I made. Yep – your girl slipped up! Y’all that is rare! haha The night before our (sunrise) session, I was perusing the internet before bed and (luckily) saw that there was a foot race going on the next morning! There were going to be road closures all around the Lincoln. (Face, meet palm.) I quickly emailed Haley and Ben to let them know where to get dropped off and to give themselves extra time to walk.
The morning of their DC moving announcement photos session I decided to drive and park somewhere that the road closures weren’t listed on the map. Well, I attempted to do that and guess what – all roads were closed, even ones that said they wouldn’t be! So I drove back to Arlington, parked, got in a Lyft. And then the Lyft kept running into road closures too! I finally had them drop me off at the end of the Memorial Bridge, on the Virginia side, and RAN across the bridge to the Lincoln! We were all late to the session. Womp womp. Luckily I was still able to give Haley and Ben lots of time in front of the camera and we still got so many gorgeous photos!
The Moral of the Story
Haley and Ben were so understanding, and of course I apologized profusely for my slip up. Moral of the story: Rachel is now even more paranoid about checking race schedules than she was before! haha I can never let this happen again, for the mere desire to never have to run across the bridge with my gear strapped to my back ever again! Oh, and the best part? After the race, the roads were all still closed so no Lyfts could get anywhere close to the Lincoln. I had to walk a mile and a half to get to an area without road closures so I could catch a Lyft back to Arlington. Again, with my gear backpack on. Oy. So glad I got to remember that through this blog post! haha
Either way, Haley and Ben did a wonderful job in front of the camera and their photos turned out beautifully! This is another one of the first sessions I did with my brand new Canon R6 camera, and I just love the quality of the photos I’ve been getting! They’re so crisp and the colors are amazing. I love it so much!
