HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
Y’all, these photos have been (figuratively) burning a hole in my hard drive, just begging to be shared – and today is finally the day! I am so freaking excited to share Casey and Bobby’s rainy Kennedy Center elopement with you!!
Let’s Play in the Rain!
Once you see C & B’s rainy Kennedy Center elopement photos, you will understand why I’ve been so uniquely excited to share them! Not only is this the first photo session where my clients actually went out into the rain – on purpose – for photos, these two love birds were so smitten, so fun and playful, and just pure gold in front of the camera. Everything came together to create some of my favorite images of all time and maybe my actual favorite session of all time. (I hate to pick favs, but y’all this was just so much fun!)
I feel like I was totally living vicariously through Casey and Bobby for this rainy Kennedy Center elopement, and maybe that’s another reason the photos resonate with me so much. I used to love playing in the rain when I was a kid – stomping around in puddles, dancing in the rain, the whole nine yards. These two looked like they were having so much fun playing in the rain at the end of their session, I admit I was kinda jealous I wasn’t out there doing the same! haha I did come as close as I could get to playing in the rain as one can get while still holding a very expensive camera. This session was so fun all around and it was a refreshing reminder of why I love my job.
The Best Laid Plans
OK, enough gushing about that – let me gush about Casey and Bobby! These two were planning a larger wedding and with all the delays of the pandemic, decided to elope, just the two of them. After some back and forth on locations, we finally wound up at the Kennedy Center. That ended up being a really good thing because it was *super* rainy the morning of their ceremony and portraits. Casey let me know that they are a “goofy” couple and that if it was going to rain, they were going to embrace it. They brought umbrellas and rain coats so that the rain wouldn’t sully any of their plans.
Once I arrived and saw exactly how rainy it was, I suggested that we get what we could before the ceremony by staying under the overhang to protect us from the rain, and then maybe at the end of the session, we could go out into the rain. They were totally game and oh man, was I excited!
Casey and Bobby had been to the location to check things out and decided they wanted to do their self-officiated ceremony under the willow trees using their umbrellas. So romantic! Rain certainly can ruin the best laid plans, but it can also add an extra layer of romance if you’re willing to go with the flow.
Into the Rain We Go
After their ceremony, I put on my rain coat, wrapped my camera in a towel, put up my big umbrella, and out into the rain we went! Casey and Bobby danced and played and had a wonderful time! It was the perfect celebration to kick off their honeymoon roadtrip later that day!
A very special note of appreciation to Casey and Bobby for being so fun and willing to play in the rain!
