I’m excited to finally start sharing some of my fav grad sessions from last spring! First up is Chloe with her Smithsonian Castle graduation portraits in Washington, D.C.
GRAD SEASON IN FULL SWING
This spring I photographed 25 full (that’s one hour or longer) graduation sessions and seven grad mini sessions! Whew! It was a whirlwind of a spring and I got to meet so many wonderful graduates – probably 50 or more total. I absolutely loved getting to meet so many brilliant young men and women who graduated from some of the best schools in the country. It was a lot of work, and still I felt so fulfilled and refreshed spending time with these energetic and excited grads.
Because I photographed so many grad sessions, I’m choosing sessions to feature here on the blog based on new locations I want to highlight, or group dynamics I haven’t yet featured so future clients can see how it would work. Believe me, there were so many wonderful sessions with so many beautiful and brilliant grads, I’d love to feature them all! In order to stay on top of my blogging schedule (and hopefully eventually get caught up!), I have to limit what I share in some way. Womp womp. #photographerproblems
NEW TO ME LOCATION
Speaking of new locations, Chloe introduced me to a totally new-t0-me place – the Smithsonian Castle gardens with her Smithsonian Castle graduation portraits. I went to the gardens years ago – like over ten years ago, and I think I also went back when I was in high school, but as far as my recent memory or shooting there, I hadn’t been. No one has ever really suggested using it as a location, so it was totally off my radar. That is until Chloe said she wanted to go there for part of there graduation portraits session this past spring.
PEACE AND QUIET IN THE CITY
Chloe graduated from American University, and since the campus was closed to visitors the weekend of graduation (stupid COVID), we had to choose other locations to feature in her grad photos. Chloe spent hours and hours in the Smithsonian Castle gardens throughout her time at American U. She loved to spend time reading and just enjoying the peace and quiet. Once she walked me through the area I could see why spending time there was so appealing and I’m glad we got to take some of her photos there.
Chloe’s parents also came in from out of town to celebrate her graduation, so we took some photos with them at the Lincoln Memorial before they bid us farewell so I could focus on Chloe for her Smithsonian Castle graduation portraits. She did such a great job picking an outfit that coordinated with her cap, gown, and Phi Sigma Pi stole, as well as all the blooming flowers at the gardens. I’m excited to share her photos with you today!
Did this post get you excited to book your own graduation photos, headshots, or branding session?! If yes, send me a note and we can chat about what you have in mind: contact me
