Oh, how I love taking photos at the National Cathedral! Thus I’m excited to share with you Jennifer and Nathaniel’s National Cathedral engagement session.
Light Up Locations
There are certain locations I just light up for – National Cathedral, the Arboretum, basically any vineyard. Basically, exclusive locations haha I definitely lit up and got excited when Jennifer and Nathaniel wanted to do a National Cathedral engagement session. These two love birds live in the neighborhood and have a view of the cathedral from their apartment (lucky ducks!). I also love when people have a connection like this to their chosen location. We were checking all the boxes for this session!
Exclusive
I mentioned the Cathedral is an exclusive location, and that’s because you have to pay for a photo permit. You also have to schedule the session ahead of time and they issue the permit for that specific date. Ya gotta just make it work! And that’s just what we did for Jennifer and Nathaniel’s National Cathedral engagement session. J+N also wanted to do their session on this specific date because it was their original wedding date before having to reschedule their full wedding due to COVID.
Don’t Rain on their Parade!
The morning of their session, it was drizzling on my drive to the Cathedral. I was so nervous we were going to get rained out! Jennifer and Nathaniel put so much love and care into planning this session, and it was so important to them, we all wanted it to come together beautifully. It continued to drizzle at the beginning of the session and was fairly dark, but Jennifer and Nathaniel were patient and still game to be in good spirits for their session. We shot outdoors while we could and even popped into a little gazebo for a few shots to wait out the stronger rain.
Surprise!
By the time their outfit change came around and I was about to take their ring photos, Jennifer and Nathaniel totally surprised me: they let me know Jennifer would be wearing a cute lil’ white dress for the next part of their session and that they had two extra rings for me to photograph while they changed… their wedding bands! After our session they were running off to get married!! Woot woot! They got to still get married on their original wedding date! (Cue the tears!)
Knowing this was actually part engagement session, part wedding portraits definitely created an energy of excitement for the remainder of their National Cathedral engagement session! I was so excited for them and they just looked so in love and thrilled to be moments away from saying ‘I do’. We finished their session in a part of the Cathedral I had scouted in case it kept raining, and I just love those photos! Between this joyful, beautiful couple and one of my favorite locations, this session is definitely a fav from last summer!
Those smiles!! (Also, obsessed with Jennifer’s dress…)
So in love with this pic! How romantic is this?! They were *so* in newlywed bliss already.
