HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
You may have noticed, I have been spending a lot of my time on Capitol Hill lately. With the National Mall closed to photography since March, Capitol Hill is the next best place capture that quintessential D.C. vibe. While that’s been the case quite often, Nicole and Garrett’s Capitol Hill engagement session had a much better reason to choose that location! It’s where they got engaged!
Nicole and Garrett live in the Capitol Hill area of Washington, D.C., so like I said, a Capitol Hill engagement session just made sense! Garrett popped the question on the other side of the Capitol from where our session was, but I’m glad we got to highlight the building in their engagement sesh. They’re also getting married out of the area, so highlighting the city where they live seemed like the natural choice.
You guys – Garrett really embraced this photo shoot! He totally bought into it every time I suggested they laugh – check out his smile! He rocked it! And Nicole is seriously the sweetest person. I can see why it’s so easy for these two to be around each other, and how they balance each other.
I wanted to give some background info on the last photo – the silhouette. You may notice some read and blue lights – those are police lights. At the very end of our session, we were at the Supreme Court. The security guard there announced they were closing the immediate vicinity due to a suspicious package found on the grounds of the Capitol – right where we had just been. Eep! We left just in time to capture that silhouette before they shut down that street. I had to make a mad dash before my car got shut in. Oh, the joys of working in D.C.! Quite the unique experience for the end of an engagement sesh haha!
A couple fun tid bits about Nicole and Garrett’s Capitol Hill engagement session: It happened to be poppy season (which I didn’t even realize was a thing!) during their session. I noticed there was a little poppy garden and just knew I had to highlight it in their photos! That’s what I love about the seasons in D.C. – photo shoots in different seasons feature different things. No two shoots are exactly the same and Nicole and Garrett are the only couple this year who got the benefit of these beautiful flowers in their pics!
The other fun thing I wanted to point out is that Nicole and Garrett are getting married in Newport, R.I., and the name of Nicole’s style of her Mrs. Box is called The Newport. Ahhh! Maybe I’m a dork, but I love little connections like that.
Congratulations and best wishes to Nicole and Garrett!
So romantic!
Nicole – lady, you are so pretty!
