HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
This weekend was a mix of business and pleasure. I did a bunch of work and I got to play Outer Banks photographer with a little day trip to one of my fav places – Corolla, Outer Banks, NC.
I want to start by saying I know a lot more has been going on this weekend than the love and light included here. There is a heaviness over the country right now after the recent (or should I say continued…) killings of black men and other racist incidents. It’s been almost all I can think about the past week. I want to acknowledge my privilege and luck as a white person, that I was able to enjoy a (pre-planned) escape to the beach this weekend. An escape after months of quarantine, from the heaviness of the D.C. area (which is always present!), and from stressors of everyday life. I know that the color of my skin allows me to go pretty much anywhere I want and have the opportunity to truly relax and feel at home, and to do so without fear or worry. People of color aren’t able to experience the same thing because they aren’t able to escape the color of their skin – the thing by which they are often judged and stereotyped in a way that negatively impacts their lives. In a way that sometimes even gets them killed. I see that privilege and understand it. My heart is with those who are suffering. I am going to continue to observe and change any prejudice I see within myself, as well as learn more about how I can be an ally to people of color.
One simple way we can all be an ally is to donate to causes who are doing the work to change hearts and minds, and seek justice for those most gravely impacted by systematic racism. This weekend I donated to Color of Change, and I encourage you to do the same if it resonates.

I feel like I’m always tacking on days to the weekend just so I get to share some more sneak peeks. It’s just because I love sharing my beautiful clients and bragging about how wonderful they are. Last week I got to do two engagement sessions and a wedding portraits sesh – I am one lucky photographer!
Tuesday was dedicated to Nicole and Garrett on Capitol Hill…
… and Thursday it was back to CH for Allison and Preston’s e-sesh…
Saturday I was up before the crack of dawn for Alycia and Scott’s Old Town Alexandria wedding portraits:
The rest of the weekend was spent on a little getaway to Corolla where I got to be an Outer Banks photographer on the beach. The Outer Banks hold a special place in the hearts of my boyfriend and I. We’ve spent so much time there – together and on our own. And lest I forget miss Milli – it’s definitely her favorite place as well! The beach is her happy place and I always appreciate giving her the opportunity to experience that.
May this week bring whatever change is needed <3
