Working as a headshots photographer, I get to meet so many entrepreneurs who have interesting jobs and are passionate about what they do! And today I’m excited to share Anne of fANNEtastic Food’s Washington D.C. branding photos with you!
I met Anne last year when we worked together on a couple shoots for sponsored posts she was doing on her super successful food and lifestyle blog, www.fANNEtasticfood.com, and have kept in touch with her since. When it was time for Anne to update her website, she wanted to include a bunch of new headshots, lifestyle, and action shots, and I was excited to help her out! Keep reading to learn all about Anne’s blog/website and passion for her work.
I started my blog in 2009 when I was in the process of going back to school to become a Registered Dietitian! I wanted a place to share my recipes and fitness adventures with friends and family, and a way to help spread the word that eating healthy and staying active could actually be fun. My blog is all about finding the joy in food and fitness. Rather than thinking about what to subtract or avoid diet-wise (which isn’t sustainable, and will just set people up to fail or yo-yo diet), I encourage readers to think about what they can ADD to their diet/lives to improve their health. So for example – adding more veggies to lunch, or adding more water throughout the day, or adding in one work out (something that they actually enjoy vs. dread) per week. I also have a daughter who will be 2 in November, so it’s been fun to share some motherhood (and, previously, pregnancy)-related content on my blog as well.
A blog redesign has been long overdue for me – I basically haven’t updated it much since starting it in 2009! As a result, it was looking pretty amateur hour, and I was ready for a more polished (but still fun) look. My blog is my main business, so I wanted to make sure it looked professional but still approachable, and I wanted the nearly 10 years of content I have on there to be more easily discoverable, too. I love the dusty rose colors and the clean, bright look of my new site!
Another main priority for me with the redesign was to have a way for readers to more easily find my recipes! My new recipe search grid allows readers to search for recipes by category – so instead of scrolling down a massive list of my recipes, you can now select “chicken” and “crock pot”, or “gluten free” and “baked good”, and only those recipes will come up. It’s much more user-friendly, which I love.
Helping others to see that eating healthy doesn’t have to mean avoiding their favorite foods! In addition to sharing healthy and super easy recipes on my blog, I also share a lot of “real life” content, showing readers how I personally find balance and fit in fitness and nutrition amidst a busy lifestyle. I love helping others to find ways to make healthy living sustainable and realistic rather than extreme or restrictive.
From my nutrition clients! In addition to my blog, I also have a private practice (www.AnneTheRD.com); I work with clients to help improve their relationships with food via intuitive eating. Most of my clients come to me after doing a lot of dieting in the past – they are fed up with diets, tired of feeling guilty and out of control around food, sick of watching their weight cycle down and back up, and ready for a change. Seeing how harmful a restrictive approach to nutrition can be long term (both mentally and physically) really encourages me to keep spreading the intuitive eating and anti-diet messaging language through my blog as well.
My first career was in PR (public relations) and writing/editing, which has been really helpful to me as a blogger in terms of promoting my blog and brand!
I enjoyed looking around at other nutrition and healthy lifestyle blogs and seeing which styles were most user-friendly, eye catching, and approachable. I wanted my site to look polished, but not too corporate or cold.
I’m most excited for that search-able recipe page! And to have the re-design off my to do list… it has been quite a lot of work to get it ready to go given how many recipes I had on my site that weren’t very well organized or categorized!
Anyone who wants inspiration for healthy, easy recipes that actually taste good – and who wants to learn how to balance healthy eating with indulgence (guilt need not apply). I also have a lot of runner readers as I’m a big runner myself – it’s always fun to share my training adventures on my blog!
Nothing new – just continuing to keep the recipes and healthy lifestyle inspiration coming!
