HI, I'M RACHEL!

Is this post just an excuse for me to talk about my favorite time of year – cherry blossoms season? Maybe. (haha!) But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m excited to share with you some cherry blossoms photo shoot outfit ideas!
The cherry blossoms provide a very specific aesthetic (pink anyone?). We obviously want to highlight that in the photos, so my goal with this post is to show you how you can enhance the pink aesthetic through consciously choosing what you wear. I’m happy to give you some cherry blossoms photo shoot outfit ideas!
For more visual representations of these tips, check out my Pinterest board for cherry blossoms sessions here.
I notice my eye loves when clients wear neutrals, pastels, and light colors during cherry blossoms sessions. This color palette complements the clean, bright, light look of the gorgeous cherry blossoms. When you wear neutrals and pastels, you’re fitting into the scene perfectly. The overall look comes across as peaceful, ethereal, and romantic.
I am making a bold statement here: do not wear all dark colors with the blossoms. The contrast is so harsh and if everyone is wearing dark colors, the photos will feel very heavy. The dark colors of your clothes will actually pull attention from the lighter colored blossoms. Being that the whole point is to highlight the blossoms, we don’t want to do that!
To give you an example – this is not the time for you to wear a LBD while standing next to your fiance wearing a black or dark grey suit. Or if you’re having family photos taken, this is not the time to make navy blue or black your color scheme for the whole family.
I think darker colors can look nice if you balance the dark with lighter pieces. The photos below show how past clients successfully balanced darker colors with lighter pastels and neutrals.
Floral prints in the springtime? With cherry blossoms? (Is anyone else thinking of that scene from The Devil Wears Prada?) I’m not one to argue with Amanda Priestly, but from what I’ve seen first hand – I love floral prints with the cherry blossoms! Check out how great Tika and Ashley look in these photos:
As you’ll see in my last tip below, I suggest if you choose a floral pattern for one piece of clothing, to keep the other pieces non-patterned.
Like I mentioned before, the overall vibe of the cherry blossoms is very feminine, ethereal, and romantic. In keeping with that theme, I love when clients wear flowy dresses and skirts; traditionally feminine colors like white, pink, purple, baby blue; floral-prints; ruffles; lace. You get the picture.
The blossoms tend to be a little busy, so we want to keep your outfits somewhat simple. You can go full-on simple with non-patterned pieces like in these photos:
Or you can keep it simple by choosing non-complex patterns (like large florals or repeating small florals, or gingham, or polkadots, or stripes) for one piece of clothing while keeping the other pieces non-patterned. Ashley and Kevin did this masterfully! Ashley chose a pastel floral patterned dress with a solid pastel cardigan and Kevin was in a classic white button down.
