I love that D.C. attracts really active, energetic, intelligent people from near and far, and I love that I get to photograph them and capture their memories here in our amazing city. Rachael and Kelly are two of these people and I’m excited to share their sunrise National Mall portraits with you today!
Kiwis in D.C.
Rachael and Kelly are from New Zealand (yay for fun accents!) and have been living in D.C. for some years now. They’re heading back to the ol’ homeland later this year and wanted to commemorate their time in D.C. and their recent marriage with some sunrise National Mall portraits.
Not Your Typical Portraits
Yes, these two love birds had a quick wedding ceremony in the city and their sunrise National Mall portraits session was actually the first time they were going to be wearing their engagement rings and wedding bands after picking them up from the jewelers a week prior. You know I couldn’t just let them slip on the rings with no fanfare! This was an exciting, romantic moment and I wanted to document it for them. So I did!
I love when people have connections to their session locations, and Rachael and Kelly had a great connection to the mall – multiple connections, actually. When they first arrived in D.C., they used to train along the mall for a marathon and used it as a way to get to know the city. They also enjoy the tidal basin because they feel most at home along the water. I was happy to include so many special spots in their sunrise National Mall portraits sesh.
I had the best time getting to know Rachael and Kelly during our session! These two clearly love each other so much and it was sweet to capture these memories for them before they leave the area.
