I think the circumstances behind this session have made me that much more excited to share Samantha and Ryan’s Great Falls Park engagement photos with you today!
Samantha and Ryan love to travel and go hiking (and hike while traveling!) together, and were looking to incorporate their love of the outdoors into their engagement session. They actually got engaged while hiking in Shenandoah National Park at a waterfall! (Nice work, Ryan!) So I thought Great Falls Park engagement photos would be the perfect option for these two adventurous love birds.
We were scheduled for their session in early June, Samantha had her hair and makeup done professionally, and the day was looking beautiful. Until it wasn’t. I was literally driving to Great Falls when it started pouring, and the forecast for the area was calling for rain throughout our session time. Oh, the joys of outdoor photography! We made the difficult call to postpone their session and try for another day in a couple weeks.
Cut to the day of Samantha and Ryan’s rescheduled session. I was driving to the park, watching the skies turn very dark the closer I got to Great Falls. Samantha and Ryan showed up, looking so stylish and ready for their session. And it started drizzling.
The fun part of working with an adventurous couple is they weren’t afraid of a little rain and I love the effect of the drizzle in the photos at the beginning of their session! We popped open the umbrella and did a few more shots before, guess what?! The rain stopped completely! The skies were grey, which was actually a huge help light-wise for the locations we wanted to use during the rest of their Great Falls Park engagement photos!
The other fun thing about working with an adventurous couple is they were totally game to venture out onto literally the edge of a cliff, onto a huge pile rocks, and hike down a rocky cliff to a beach. These two are rock stars! I was so excited that they were up for everything I suggested because we were able to get some beautiful photos for them that are totally evocative of who they are as a couple.
Thank you to Samantha and Ryan for bearing with me through weather, date changes, cliff hiking, and for generally being a fun couple to get to know!
