What do you do when half the people who were supposed to be at your family photo shoot get snowed in? You make the most of it and continue on with your session, just like Nora and her family did during their cherry blossoms family photos last month!
Nora contacted me with a really fun idea for her cherry blossoms family session. She wanted to do a cake smash (you had me at cake smash!) portrait for her niece’s first birthday, along with family portraits with her extended family coming in from out of town during cherry blossoms peak bloom. Such a great idea and I was really looking forward to it and I know Nora was as well.
Mother Nature had other plans though, and Nora’s extended family was snowed in during a blizzard in Colorado, and didn’t end up making it out for their visit. Total bummer! I suggested they go ahead with their session since we already had a photo permit – might as well make the most of it, right? I’m so glad she was on board because these are some of my favorite photos of the season!
I feel like the Kwanzan cherry blossoms don’t get much play, and I am here to change that! The Kwanzan cherry blossoms are the bright pink, fluffy, more clustered blossoms. They hit their peak bloom about 15 days after the Yoshino cherry blossoms (the baby pink blossoms) and are absolutely stunning! (How many times can I use the word ‘blossoms’ in this post, btw?) Luckily they were in bloom during Nora’s cherry blossoms family photos session and I became obsessed! Next year I’m definitely planning sessions specifically around these gorgeous trees!
Nora’s family was so cute together and I especially had a great time getting to know her sons as we walked across the tidal basin from spot to spot. Since we were missing a few people from our original plans, we had a little extra time and used it to take portraits of Nora with her hubby. I just love their portraits together!
