MORE ABOUT ME
Proud pup mom, type A creative, lover of the outdoors, Top Chef fan girl, and wedding and portrait photographer. Welcome to the blog!
HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
Over the past year I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of wedding industry professionals and today I’m excited to introduce you to one of my favorites as I share her Loudoun County branding session photos!
I met Angelica last year at a Tuesdays Together D.C. meeting and we just clicked! We scheduled a lunch meeting and I immediately knew I wanted to add her to my preferred vendors list. She and I have similar personalities, are both Type A creatives, and love working in natural light centric venues like wineries with couples who enjoy spending time outdoors. We’re collaborating on a styled shoot early next month and I’m so excited to finally work with her!
Last weekend she and I toured three wedding venues during the Loudoun County open house event, and along the way I took some Loudoun County branding session photos for her! We stopped at the Manor at Airmont, Goodstone Inn, and Fleetwood Farm Winery – all beautiful venues!
Without further ado, I introduce you to Angelica of Angelica & Co Weddings:
What sparked your interest in wedding planning & design and how long have you been doing this?
I was always interested in design, but my love for it came through fashion. I started taking Fashion Merchandising classes in high school and continued to choose it as my degree in college. From there, I switched majors to Public Relations where I stumbled upon an events planning course.
As my final project, I was required to plan an event with a budget selected at random. The remaining details were mine to chose! Needless to say, I absolutely loved it. It turned out my professor owned a business for wedding PR. She put me in the hands of a wedding planner in the area to start as her intern. Fast forward eight years later and the rest in history.
What’s the heart behind your business?
My couples. As much as I’d love to say it’s something else–they’re the reason why I’m here. I love hearing their stories and helping them create their version of perfect through the look and feeling of their wedding day.
What are you passionate about within your work?
Feeling. I always tell my couples, if it doesn’t make you feel good–don’t have it! Same goes with people. Basing my designs off of the feelings they evoke is what I truly love.
From where do you draw motivation for what you do?
Their lives. My couples are really the driving force behind most of my designs. I love hearing who they are as people, what they’re like together, and silly seemingly irrelevant things they like to do. Like drink beer and eat tacos! Those person quirks bring my heart so much joy and continue to motivate me for them throughout our planning journey.
What’s one thing about you people may not know right away but that definitely influences who you are as a business owner?
I come from a broken family. My parents were divorced when I was 12 years old. It took a toll on us all and really forced us to think about how we spent out time–specifically with one another. Because of that, my time and how I spent it as a business owner is wildly important to me. Life is short. I want to fill it with as many joys as I can (weddings included) but also remember to take time to focus on myself and my health (mental and physical).
Who has had the most influence on you as a creative person?
Meghan Ely of OFD Consulting. She is not a wedding planner or really a creative at all, but she’s a public speaker who encourages you to think a little deeper and act with a little more intention. I’ve found her words have really inspired my creative mind when Pinterest is an exhausted option!
Who is your ideal client?
I’m focused on the everyday person like myself. They’re the ones who love being outside, who sleep in on the weekends, and are always up for a good happy hour. They’re late 20’s to mid 30’s in age and by day are working professionals. Aesthetic and design are equally as important to them as how the wedding experience is from a guest perspective.
What’s next for you?
Refinement! With this being only my second year in business I’m aiming to hone in on the skills I’ve been continuing to build. Slow and steady for me.
