I’m so excited about today’s post because I love celebrating other small business owners, solopreneurs if you will! Sarah contacted me last month about her Kennedy Center branding session and I was so excited she chose me to take these super important photos for her! Sarah recently quit her day job to pursue her side hustle full time and I was honored to commemorate the occasion with her Kennedy Center branding session, and even more excited to give her these images that will hopefully take her business to the next level!
I recently asked Sarah to tell me more about her business, so without further ado, I’ll let Sarah take it away!

I built my first website when I was 12. [Side note from Rachel: um, WOW!] I haven’t stopped since! I went to school for web design & development, where I started a freelance business doing just that. After graduating, I began working in digital agencies in the DC area, working in all aspects of the web. After years of working in the agency space, I decided I wanted to pursue my side hustle full-time. I quit my job and made the leap!
Sarah Proper Designs, LLC is for all your digital needs. From business cards, to a new website, flyers, or social media posts – we do it all!
I love the ability to help others reach their goals through me. It’s amazing how much a well designed, well functioning website can change someone’s business.
A lot of it comes from the people I work with. I personally love what I do, so it’s always fun to work with people and watch as they get excited over a fun feature or when I create something they imagined in their head and they get to see it in real life.
The world around me! I love to travel and often draw influence from things that I see. My personal website was inspired by a doorway in Morocco. The colors, the patterns, it spoke to me (it also happened to match what I was wearing that day!). Having a global perspective means never getting pigeonholed into one style or aesthetic because there is always something or somewhere new to draw inspiration from.
My mom! She is the opposite of a creative person, so I was always the go-to when we needed something made. She works as a software engineer, which is where my knowledge of computers came from. I always had the coolest powerpoints growing up!
Small businesses and restaurants! Small businesses because a website means more than “just a website.” It can be someones livelihood or the thing that brings them to the next level. Restaurants because I love looking at pictures of food 🙂 I always feel inspired by beautiful pictures of food.
Growing my business! Right now it’s just me. I’d love to have so much work, that I need to add an employee.
