HI, I'M RACHEL!

I love having the opportunity to capture multiple occasions in my clients’ lives! These Mamie Davis Park family photos are the perfect example of that! You will remember Kandis & Daniel from their National Mall engagement photos this spring. Well Kandis & Daniel also wanted to take family photos with Daniel’s daughter & Kandis’ soon-to-be stepdaughter, Mya, just before Easter. So, we did!
Kandis & Daniel live a little further south, so I took the chance to get to shoot in a completely new place. Actually, it was a place I’d been wanting to do a photo shoot for a while: Occoquan! If you live in northern VA and haven’t been to Occoquan, you need to go! A friend introduced me to the area a few years ago & I’ve loved it ever since. It’s this quaint little town right on the river. There are delicious restaurants, fun shops, a boardwalk along the water, & the most amazeballs bakery Kandis introduced me to.
Kandis & Daniel said they both trusted me to pick the location, so I chose Mamie Davis Park right in the heart of Occoquan! As you’ll see, there was an adorable gazebo & plenty of beautiful backdrop options within walking distance. We lucked out and were there while this gorgeous, lush cherry tree was in bloom!
My favorite part of this Mamie Davis Park family photos session (besides just being in adorable Occoquan with such a fun family!), was towards the end of the shoot when Mya threw in some of her own creative vision, telling me where to stand to get the best shot! I love when kids get involved & we’re able to create a few shots together. Collaboration at its best! haha Mya really has a good eye because the shots she set up are some of my favorite from the whole session! And they ended up being some of the ones grandma ended up ordering prints of, so you know they were good!
Thank you to the Dwyer family! And especially to miss Mya, my junior creative assistant 😉
