Happy Monday, friends! This is a happy Monday for me because I’m feeling a smidge better after being sick all last week. I chose to take a rest day on Friday & Sunday in order to finally kick this sickness once & for all, and I think it worked! Or at least, is in the works…
I’ve learned to listen when my body is trying to tell me something. When I got sick twice in the span of a month, I realized my body was trying to tell me to take better care of myself & get some rest! I declared Sunday a rest day, did [almost] zero work, watched a lot of reality tv (are you keeping up with The Challenge this season?!), got really invested in Big Little Lies on HBO, snuggled my pup, and guzzled lots of water & hot tea. I’ve eaten so many cough drops the past week, I think I might become a cough drop!
On Saturday I had to do one of my least favorite things: reschedule a photo shoot 🙁 When I’m sick, I typically feel worse at night, so I don’t sleep, and when I wake up I’m really congested. When Friday evening rolled around & I was losing my voice & could barely talk without coughing, I knew rescheduling my Saturday morning shoot was the right thing to do. I love being able to clearly communicate & give direction during a shoot, which is pretty difficult through coughing fits. Luckily my client was super patient & understanding, so we’re on the calendar for next Sunday when I WILL be better!
Saturday afternoon I got all doped up on Advil & Cepacol cough drops and made my way to Vienna for Nahla & Ava’s second birthday party! I was able to photograph them last fall for their holiday photos & was honored to take pictures for their second birthday. They got dressed up in sparkly tutus & their mom & dad even had a petting zoo set up, complete with a pony for rides around the yard! It was so much fun & they were super adorable, as was this princess cake & cupcakes:
After the birthday party, I made my way back to Arlington for a family photo shoot at Bon Air Rose Garden. Surprise! It’s early spring & there are no roses at Bon Air Rose Garden. Womp womp. We made due with the beautiful green grounds surrounding the garden & even got some photos along the creek. When I do family shoots, I love taking mom & dad aside for a few shots of just the two of them, like this:
So that was my Saturday, before my rest day on Sunday. Make sure to check back tomorrow for another cherry blossoms session, Wednesday for photos from Colleen & Chris‘ wedding reception, and Thursday for another Dance Adventures post!
I hope you all had a fun weekend & managed to get some rest yourselves <3
