It’s all in the details, or so they say. As a wedding photographer, I tend to say, it’s all in the getting ready details. So much of your wedding memories are tied to the things you’ll still have with you years later, like your wedding rings, your something blue, the dried bouquet, and your other wedding jewelry. That’s why I love capturing photos of these beautiful getting ready details on your wedding day.
Photography is about preserving memories. Sure, you’ll have some of these items for years to come to look at whenever you want. But taking photographs of them as they looked on the day of your wedding is a wonderful way to preserve that memory & take you back to the moment any time you look at the picture.
When I photograph your wedding, you’ll notice beforehand that I’ll give you a list of items you’ll want to have with you while you’re getting ready. Items like your invitation suite, both wedding bands, your something old/new/borrowed/blue, wedding jewelry, bouquet, veil, etc. I want to take pictures of all these things! And something tells me you’ll want photos of them too.
I make sure to arrive with enough time to dedicate to photographing all of these items. I set up special lighting if I need to, just to make sure they’re captured in the best light so they get the attention they deserve. These are the things maybe your family members have passed down from generation to generation, they’re gifts given to you by people you love. Maybe they’re new items you meticulously picked out to weave into your wedding day. They’re special, they’re heirlooms. Maybe one day the photos we take that day will become special heirlooms as well.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite getting ready details from weddings I’ve photographed. Each item has a story that maybe only it’s owner knows, but I hope these photos represent that story in as beautiful a way as they do in their owners’ minds.
