HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
It started in grad school & was cultivated over nights watching the TV show, Archer. It carried into a summer of twice daily long distance phone calls – about as long distance as you can get – Kazakhstan to the Atlanta. It traveled in tandem to Washington, D.C., and developed over sharing a neighborhood, and eventually a home and a pup, Mumble. Some loves are meant to be and stand the tests time delivers. Mike knew this love was special and this summer, eagerly decided it was time to ask Kim to be his wife.
Kim & Mike met at Emory University while both pursuing masters degrees in Public Health. They kept crossing paths until their attraction & chemistry couldn’t be denied. They were together throughout their years in Atlanta & made the trek to Washington, D.C. to take on jobs in their fields. They found homes in the same neighborhood and began creating memories here as soon as they arrived.
I met Mike in the midst of what will surely go down as one of the most exciting times of his life: he had just worked with jewelers at Ascot Diamonds in Ballston (Arlington, VA)Â to design & create the perfect diamond & sapphire engagement ring for his then girlfriend (now fiance!), Kim. He had some ideas swirling in his head of how, when, and where he wanted to propose, but he knew one thing for sure: he wanted the moment documented.
Mike put so much thoughtfulness in his proposal plan & I was happy to be there to help him implement it. Cut to last Wednesday, August 31st, 2016. Mike made dinner reservations at a restaurant with special meaning to them as a couple, and proposed a short walk along the Georgetown waterfront just before dinner. There, along the Potomac River, with the Kennedy Center as his backdrop, Mike dropped to one knee & asked Kim to be his wife.
And then surprise! He introduced me & my assistant for the day, Rebecca, and let Kim know we were there to capture the entire thing! We bounced around the waterfront taking portraits of these two camera ready naturals, totally immersing them in their post-engagement bliss! We finished with their portraits & off to dinner they went, ready to celebrate their engagement & Kim’s upcoming birthday.
Congratulations to Kim & Mike! May you enjoy this exciting time & the many more happy years to come!

This brought tears to my eyes. I first met Kim when she was about 9years old, and I knew then that she was a very special girl. I am so happy for her and wish her all the happiness in the world.
What a sweet message for Kim! Thank you for commenting 🙂
Ah, these photos are just GORGEOUS! You perfecto captured their big moment and you can just see the love radiating out of them. I loved hearing about their story too ?
