HI, I'M RACHEL!

I am a total patriot. I just love my country, warts & all. So much so I even chose the Patriots as ‘my’ football team even though I’m from nowhere near New England! haha I think it stems from my having lived in Spain as a child with my family while my stepdad was in the Navy. It was really hard being away from my family & friends, as well as all the comforts of the States, but my favorite memory from my time there (besides roller skating on our apartment roof deck everyday after school!) was the 4th of July celebrations. The base would put on a three day fair with local vendors, complete with a farris wheel & cotton candy, and it really felt like home. They would blare the Star Spangled Banner & that Proud to Be an American song, & I would get teary eyed watching the fireworks, thinking about how much I missed my country. Ever since, I’ve been drawn to all things red, white, and blue. So in honor of my favorite holiday, today I’m going to share some of my very favorite patriotic photos.
In Spain, the only days Americans were allowed to fly our flag was the 4th of July and the two days leading up to it. It became an extra special emblem for us, so now I appreciate it that much more. This is probably why Ol’ Glory catches my eye wherever I am. They pop up in so many places – keep an eye out and you’ll start to notice them more and more.
I suppose for someone so patriotic, it’s lucky I live right next door to the nation’s capitol. There is so much opportunity to capture patriotic photos around Washington, D.C. From the White House to the monuments and memorials, this place is swimming in history & patriotism. I love playing tourist with my camera, even though I’ve seen everything a dozen times!
Today I’m happy to share with you a few of my favorite patriotic photos in my own mini early celebration of July 4th!
