I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that the holiday season has already kicked off! And ya know what? I’m surprisingly okay with that. I used to get frustrated by the premature explosion of holiday decorations in the stores, carols playing over the speakers the day after Halloween, and town centers erecting their Christmas trees in mid-November. “Let me enjoy Thanksgiving!” I would assert. But this year, I’m totally on board for all of it! OK… maybe I could do without the carols…
This is the first holiday season as a business owner, and I’m learning that business owners have to kind of be ahead of the season. Planning for what’s coming next is important from a marketing perspective, so that’s why I’m already in the holiday spirit, and have been since the middle of October when the idea for my holiday mini-sessions was taking shape!
The holiday season is a time for togetherness and many families are looking to capture that feeling with a photograph for their holiday cards or to give as a gift to their loved ones. I personally am a big fan of personalized holiday cards and have been known to give photos or photography as a gift in the past, so I can identify with this sentiment. That’s why I was excited to host holiday mini-sessions for a select number of local families on two separate weekends in November. I looked at it as spreading some holiday cheer 🙂
Not only am I providing these families with a 30 minute photo session, plus all viable images from the shoot, I offered them some suggestions for customized holiday cards and my favorite printing services! I found some talented creative professionals who design customized holiday cards & collaborated with virtual assistant Abbey Ashley to create a post card with all of their information to give the families at their shoots. I referred them to Ms. Rebecca Ruest of My Personal Assistant in case they need some help putting everything together in time for the holidays. (For more details on holiday card designers, check for their contact info at the bottom of this post.)
Today I am happy to share some photos from the first mini-session of one epic weekend! I had booked six mini-sessions to take place in one day, and wouldn’t you know – it was pouring rain the morning of! The first shoot of the day was to take place at a beautiful rose garden in Arlington, VA. Long story short, we ended up back at the family’s nearby apartment so their baby didn’t have to hang out in the rain for 30 minutes! We managed to get some lovely photos & they were even gung-ho enough to venture outdoors to their courtyard to squeeze in a few shots while we had a break in the rain. The Wuellners were so flexible and easy going and a true pleasure to work with! Their great attitude was rewarded with some beautiful images of their family.
