HI, I'M RACHEL!
welcome!
micro WEDDINGS
elopements
I mentioned on Instagram the other day that although I don’t consider myself a super girlie girl (or shallow!), I absolutely love taking photos of flowers and diamonds! Maybe that is the little bit of girlie that exists inside me! So pair that with my love for photographing couples and this D.C. cherry blossoms engagement session is basically my photography dream come true (as well as Cori & Rich’s from last week!).
I met Shakira and Joe at the tidal basin last Wednesday (finally! after a few reschedules due to delay in peak bloom), and as we walked along the waterfront for their D.C. cherry blossoms engagement session, they told me the stories of how they met and how they got engaged. Joe proposed to Shakira in such a fun, adventurous, romantic way: at the top of a mountain! This goofy and playful couple love to travel and they have a special love for Tennessee. So it was on their last trip to the volunteer state that Joe popped the question after a hike to the top of a mountain!
I was happy to hear Shakira and Joe have adventurous spirits, because we had to call that into play a little during their D.C. cherry blossoms engagement session! It was a little chilly the morning of their session, and by “a little chilly” I mean it was in the 30s! And to top it off, there really isn’t anywhere to change clothes at the tidal basin, so Shakira and Joe had to utilize a thick thatch of evergreens as their dressing room! They assured me they were used to it with their hiking and camping background. Phew! But hey, I’m glad we were able to work in a little adventure at their engagement session 😉
Shakira and Joe were both raised in the D.C. area and a D.C. cherry blossoms engagement session was on both of their bucket lists so it was wonderful to have the honor of capturing these special memories for these two D.C. area natives. Thank you so much to Shakira and Joe for bearing with the cold and being so lovey-dovey for your photos!
