A super fun part of my job is choosing where to take photos for people. And the best part of that fun is when I get to play tourist like I did this past weekend.
Getting to do what I love for a job is certainly not something I take for granted; I’m grateful every single time someone books me for a shoot. I get excited to take pictures for people, to tell their stories, and to document their lives & love. A major part of those stories is incorporating the location where we’ll take their photos.
As I’ve grown as a photographer & started crafting the look of my photos, I have realized there are places with backdrops that work really well with the way I shoot & the vision I have for my photos that will really bring the images to life for my clients. I’m very much inspired by the monuments & I love that so much of them are made of white stone. The white stone that turns the shade of sand in certain places as the golden hour light hits it. That sandy white juxtaposed against the magic hour sky reminds me of another place I love – the beach. I love the way the ocean blends into the sand that blends into the light. The monuments do that in my mind as well. So basically anywhere that has monuments or has water, you’ll find me with my camera!
If you follow me on Instagram & Instagram stories (find me here), you know I love flowers! I don’t know if I’d say I’m obsessed with flowers, but I am drawn to them! That’s why I’m also drawn to shooting in gardens. The golden magic hour light illuminates the flowers until they’re glowing, creating an aura around my subjects.
And finally, maybe because I feel like I have an old soul, I love being around quaint older or historic homes. The streets they sit on pretty much make me squeal with delight! The cobblestone streets, the alleyways, the uniqueness of each old house. I’m drawn to them.
This weekend when I went in search of D.C. photo shoot spots, I keep all of these ideas in mind. I was drawn to Capitol Hill, Memorial Bridge, the Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown. I so enjoyed the day, wandering the city with my camera. I found so much peace, joy, & gratitude in it.
I’m excited to show my clients what I found! Stay tuned… But for now, some photos I took on my hunt for D.C. photo shoot spots.
