Some things in life are so special, they must come full circle. That’s what getting to take photos of my high school friend’s baby felt like. Emily & I met in ninth grade and had several classes together through all four years at Northern High. We got to know each other, became friends, had inside jokes, made trouble, avoided trouble, we even stayed together with a group of friends for senior week in Ocean City, MD, after graduation! We both went off to college – she to Towson University & I to Coastal Carolina. We lost touch but found each other again in the age of Facebook. When Emily asked me to photograph her newborn baby girl some fifteen years after we last saw each other, I was so honored and excited to meet her family.
I remember Emily as being super smart, really funny, fiercely sarcastic (might be why we got along so well! 😉 ), and above all, a loyal friend, both to me as well as her close knit group of friends who she is still tight with to this day. And in keeping up with her through Facebook all these years, I’ve watched her family grow & change, and learned that she is an avid supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, having lost her younger brother to this disease of the lungs just last year. I have so much respect for how she loved & supported him, and still does after his passing.
I was excited to have the opportunity to reunite with Emily & meet her family during the happy circumstance of having just welcomed the newest member of their clan, baby Brynn! I met with Emily, her hubby, Shawn, and son, Bryce, at their home in Maryland and got to work taking photos of their new baby girl, their family as a whole, and even a few of their pup!
Besides being totally adorable, Miss Brynn was super stylish! Emily let me know she had an array of outfits to change the baby into, thanks to Emily’s friends & Brynn’s honorary aunties, Brandie & Erica. Between flowering headbands, tulle skirts, and reppin’ her hometown teams, Brynn rocked her newborn photo session! I think my favorite aspect of the day was photographing everyone in their Oriole’s gear as the team played on the nearby TV. This group are true fans!
Congratulations to the Van O family on your new addition, and thank you for allowing me to capture these precious moments for your family <3
